What is the best stretch to address plantar fasciitis? Good Question.
Gastrocnemius and Soleus Muscle (Your Calf Muscles) tightness is important to address when you have plantar fasciitis or any foot/ankle condition for that matter. The best stretch to address the tightness in your calves is the stretch in the picture above (Gastroc Stretch). You should feel a strong stretch in the calf of the back leg. If you need more of a stretch, you can do 1 of 2 things: either lean forward more or place a small towel roll under the ball of your foot.
As a physical therapist, I have my clients hold these stretches for 2 to 3 sets of 1 minute on both the involved and uninvolved side.
Begin with performing this stretch daily to see if you are able to loosen up your calf muscles on your own. If you continue to have significant pain, give us a call 847-920-7110 as we have other means of assisting you with stretching out these tight muscles such as Graston Technique and other hands on approaches.
